Do you know how to choose the right forklift for your business?
When choosing a forklift, you need to consider many factors to ensure that the forklift can meet your business needs and improve work efficiency. Here are some key points to consider:
1. Working environment
Indoor or outdoor: If the work is mainly done in indoor warehouses, the space is usually narrow and the channel width is limited, then a forklift with a small body and a small turning radius is more suitable, such as a pallet forklift or a reach forklift. If you work in an open outdoor area, such as a construction site or a logistics yard, the size restrictions on the forklift are relatively small, and you can choose a counterbalanced forklift.
Ground conditions: If the ground is flat and hard, most types of forklifts can be used. But if the ground is soft and uneven, such as a muddy construction site, a crawler forklift or a wheeled forklift with larger tires and good passability will be a better choice. They can avoid sinking and ensure stable operation.
2. Cargo characteristics
Weight: Knowing the maximum weight of the goods that are frequently handled is the key to choosing the lifting capacity of the forklift. If the goods are heavy, such as large machinery or building materials, a forklift with a large lifting capacity is required, such as a counterbalanced forklift with a large lifting capacity; for lighter goods, a small pallet forklift or a manual forklift can meet the needs.
Size and shape: Side forklifts can be used to transport long strips of goods (such as wood and pipes); for irregular shapes that need to be placed precisely, flexible forklifts such as three-way stacking forklifts are more advantageous. If the goods are standard-sized items placed on pallets, pallet forklifts, reach forklifts, etc. can handle them effectively.
3. Operation requirements
Lifting height: If the warehouse shelves are high and the forklift needs to be able to reach the corresponding lifting height, then choose a forklift with a high-lift mast, such as a three-way stacking forklift or some special high-shelf forklifts. If you only need to transport goods at a lower height, an ordinary forklift can be used.
Operation frequency: In places where operations are frequent, such as large logistics centers, electric forklifts with stable performance, high efficiency, and possibly higher automation should be selected to reduce downtime and manual operation intensity. For small businesses with low operating frequency, manual forklifts or fuel forklifts can be selected from cost considerations.
4. Budget and maintenance costs
Maintenance cost: The maintenance cost of electric forklifts is generally low, but the battery needs to be replaced regularly, which is costly. The maintenance of the engine and other parts of the fuel forklift is relatively complex, and long-term maintenance costs and parts supply need to be considered.
